Granada
Granada is a beautiful colonial city situated
on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Its was founded
by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba
in 1524. It is considered to be the oldest city
on mainland Nicaragua and it is still located
where it once was built. There are many colonial
buildings and churches including the old cathedral.
Many of the houses are also built in a very
unique style, with patios, corridors and other
typical features, including the famous “Adobe
“. Other attractions nearby are Laguna
de Apoyo lake which was formed 25000 years ago
alter a volcanic eruption. You can still find
volcanic rocks in it and near Masaya Volcano.
Isla
Zapatera Zapatera Islands is
situated 20 kms. southeast from Granada, in
front of the Lake Nicaragua Coast and the Ochomogo
river delta. Around 5000 people live on the
island and its a very important arqueological
site. Many objects are being found. Because
of the few inhabitants, the nature is well conserved.

Nandaime
y Los Pueblos Brujos Nandaime
and the chain of Witch - Villages are situated
between Granada and Masaya. The Witch Villages
receive this name because of the strong traditions,
superstition and witchery that is still present
in these little villages. Other call them the
white villages, because of the numerous homes
in white colors.

Isletas de Granada
365 small islets and cays are located within
the Lake of Nicaragua. They originated after
Mombacho Volcano’s eruption around approximately
1.5 million years ago. All together they have
a surface of about 2.21 square kilometers. 88
% of them are smaller than 2 acres. The largest
of them called Guanabana, has a size of 120
acres approximately.

La Calera
Granada La Calera is located
at the base of Volcano Mombacho volcano at the
end of the Granada Islets. It has a series of
trails ideal for wildlife observation, bird
watching and sport. There are also some nice
hot water springs.

Reserva Natural Volcán
Mombacho This amazing nature
preserve was created in 1983. At a height of
1345 above sea level, it has both cloud forest
and also dwarf forest, typical of areas in higher
altitudes and more moisture. Nearby you can
find Mombacho Volcano, which is said had its
last eruption around 1.5 million years ago,
creating the Granada Islets.
