Jinotega
Between valleys and mountain tops, situated
in the northern part of the central region,
we find the colorful region of Jinotega, one
of the largest in Nicaragua, at 140 kilometers
from the capital.

Lago
de Apanás Jinotega Going
up River Tuma en Apanas Valley, we find the
first artificial lake that was created in Nicaragua.
Lake Apanas is the main source of electric energy
but it also offers some interesting tourist
attractions, such as boat tours, ecotourism
and windsurfing.

San Rafael del Norte
The town of San Rafael del
Norte is famous for being the birthplace of
the wife of national hero and general Augusto
Sandino, Nicaragua’s hero and defender
of the invasion of North American troops. He
fell in love with Blanca Arauz, who lived in
the town in 1927. Nowadays, the family house
is a small museum where you can find letters,
objects, weapons and more that tell us the fascinating
history of when the courageous general fought
off invading troops.

Peñas
Blancas El Macizo de Peñas
Blancas is one of the regions most important
natural attractionst. It is 1745 meters high.
It is covered by tropical forests. It is part
of the Bosawas Nature Preserve, the largest
park in Central America. It protects both tropical
cloud forests as well as tropical rainforest.
