Cañón
de Somoto The Somoto Canyon
was first discovered in 2004 by Czech and Nicaraguan
geologists. The canyon is around 5 – 13
million years old.

Rosquillas
Somoteñas – Sweet Bakery
The Somoto Rosquillas are made from corn. You
can enjoy them while drinking a great cup of
coffee, with the unique taste and flavor of
the Nueva Segovia Mountains. They are prepared
in a wooden oven.

Somoto Somoto
is famous being the birth town of the Mejia-Godoy
brothers, Enrique and Carlos. Its adobe church
was built in 1661. Around it, many Pre-Columbian
artifacts have been found, some of which visitors
can admire in the local museum. It is considered
one of the coziest cities in the country, there
for it got the name of La Amistad.

Yalagüina
y Totogalpa These two little
cozy and rural towns are famous for their delicious
rosquillas and also for their pottery, especially
their unique style in clay and ceramic works.

San
Lucas, La Sabana, y San José de Cusmapa
These little localities are hidden among mountains
and rolling green hills. Therefore, some spectacular
views of the scenery enhance the area. Also,
typical handcrafts made in clay and ceramic
are the main income for local inhabitants.

Palacagüina,
Telpaneca, y San Juan de Río Coco
Although not really famous as a tourist attraction,
the rolling hills, forested green mountains,
valleys, creeks and rivers of this area describe
the life of the beautiful interior of Nicaragua.
