Catarina
This small region of only 4500
inhabitants is famous for its handcrafts and
ornamental flowers. Most of its inhabitants
depend on bamboo crafts, pottery and medicinal
and ornamental plants.

Laguna
de Apoyo Catarina Laguna de
Apoyo was created after a volcanic eruption
around 25000 years ago. Today, you can still
find volcanic rocks in it. It is located near
Masaya and it is considered one of Nicaragua’s
highlights.

Masaya
Hammock factory The Hammocks
are created by a group of families that work
with hammocks since 150 years. They are very
famous worldwide because of its quality, beauty
and originality.

San
Juan de Oriente San Juan de
Oriente is famous for its traditional clay and
ceramic pottery . Here the visitor can find
many stores and shops and stands where they
can be bought. With luck, the visitor will be
able to see how they make them.

Niquinohomo
This little town is the birth place of the famous
general Augusto Sandino. The house where he
was born, was built in the 17 th century. It
was declared National Heritage in 2000.

Masatepe
The mondongo soup as well as the famous wooden
furniture and handcrafts are the two main attractions
of this little White Town. Here the visitor
will be able to buy some excellent furniture
at good prices.

Festivities
Masaya Masaya is considered
the cradle of Nicaragua Folklore. Alive and
colorful traditions and celebrations as well
as strong religios and cultural heritage are
part of the lifestyle in Masaya.

Fortaleza El Coyotepe
The fortress of El Coyotepe
was built in 1895 during the government of Jose
Santos Zelaya. The buildings have two styles,
Central American baroc in its towers and its
walls are built in medieval style. Its purpose
was to protect Masaya during times of strong
fighting and civil wars.

Masaya
City Masaya is famous for its
festivities. The city is considered the cradle
of Nicaragua folklore. It is located at 30 Kms.from
Managua, on the way to Granada. One of its main
attractions is the main entrance, where one
can find a statue of the General Augusto Nicolas
Sandino Calderon.

San
Juan de Oriente Situated on
the east of the country, the people that inhabit
this area are famous for being the masters in
pottery, especially bicromatic, polychromatic
and clay elaborated pottery.
