and Highlights of Nueva Segovia
Ciudad
Antigua The Old City has a
popular museum. Here the visitors can find and
admire many pre-Columbian artifacts, including
pottery and stone. Also, in the area there are
many homes build in adobe, which still reflects
the influence of the Spanish colonial times
that lasted many centuries.

Dipilto Dipilto
is a little paradise. Mountains, pine tree forests
and coffee plantations blend in perfectly and
create this unique scenery. Here, the highest
peak of Nicaragua, the Mogoton at 2107 meters
above sea level, provides visitors with an amazing
view over the plains and also over the surrounding
mountains of Dipilto – Jalapa.

Ocotal
The city of Ocotal is the third largest city
in Segovia. It was founded by Spanish conquistadores,
where the rivers Jicaro and Coco join. It was
burned down by the Jicaques Indigenous people
in 1611

Macuelizo
y Santa María In
the far west of Nueva Segovia are Maqueklizo
and Santa Maria, two rural and easy-going towns
that express perfectly the lifestyle in this
area.

Mozonte Mozonte
is a small town that has recovered its indigenous
political structure. Also, it is famous for
the many clay and ceramic works with the typical
style of the area.

El
Jícaro y Murra El
Jicarao and Murra are not easy to reach, because
of the poor road system. They were founded in
times when mining was a great success in the
area. Today, they are quiet little rural towns.

Jalapa
Jalapa is a little town situated
in the mountainous area of Jalapa. Its attractions
are coffee plantations, forests, creeks and
rivers with abundant waterfalls and cascades.

Quilalí y Wiwilí
The
small villages of Quilalí and Wiwilí
de Nueva Segovia are not easy to reach, since
the roads are not in good conditions. They are
popular because of their agricultural production.
Surrounded by forests hills and mountains, they
both have a little urban center.
