WHAT CAN YOU DO IN THE ISLAND
OF OMETEPE?
• You can climb two volcanoes:
Maderas and Concepción.
• Visit the natural water spring and have
a swim in the river or go swimming in the beautiful
Santo Domingo beaches.
• Discover the ancient stone engravings
on the Finca Porvenir's rocks. There are still
many undiscovered stone engravings.
• Go to the Maderas volcano's lagoon and
take a tour around the whole Ometepe Island.
Meet the islan's culture, sayings, legends and
history.
• Maderas Volcano Tour
• It takes most hikers four hours to summit
and two or three hours to make it back down
because it is fairly steep and muddy to the
top and back. You are rewarded by more species
of plants and animals that inhabit the tropical
rain forest than anywhere else on Ometepe: Including,
butterflies monkeys and a lot of birds and of
course the volcanic crater lake. The cost of
this tour includes; Transportation from the
hotel, packed lunch (sandwich, fruit salad a
big water bottle), the guide and the entrance
fees at the farm. This tour requires a good
physical and health condition and courage. Leaving
from the hotel at 7:30 a.m.
• Concepción Volcano Tour
• This tour takes about 8 - 10 hours of
sandy and steep hiking. It requires a good physical
shape and this tour affords a really nice view
of Chontales, the southern part of Costa Rica,
Volcano Maderas and the isthmus of Ometepe;
That will knock your socks off! The vegetation
of the two volcanoes is quiet similar to one
another giving way to large trees on the lower
slopes. The cost includes; transportation from
the hotel to la Sabana, a packed lunch, and
the entrance fee. This tour requires a good
physical and health condition. Leaving from
the hotel at 5:30 a.m. and also you would be
well advised to take sun block or any other
kind of skin protection.
• San Ramón Waterfall
• You can go to the water fall in San
Ramon Leaving from the hotel in our transportation
which last 40 minutes to the entrance. The hike
takes about 2 hours to make it there and back
down. In summer there is not a lot of water
and you can not swim there because any piece
of stone could hit your head. The cost includes
the transportation, a packed lunch, the trek
leader and the entrance fees.
Our trips to Ometepe
MANAGUA - RIVAS - OMETEPE:
Take a bus from Managua to
Jinotepe, then take another one from Jinotepe
to Rivas. After you arrive at Rivas, take a
cab to the port in San Jorge. In San Jorge you
can take the ferry or a motorboat to Moyogalpa
in the Ometepe Island. In Moyogalpa you can
take a bus or taxi to the Hotel. This trip will
take you about 5 hours.
MANAGUA - GRANADA - OMETEPE:
Take a bus from Managua to
Granada. In Granada take a motorboat to Altagracia
in the Ometepe Island. After you arrive to the
Island, you can take a bus or taxi to the hotel.
This trip will take you about 8 hours.
SAN CARLOS - OMETEPE:
In San Carlos take the ferry
to Altagracia (Ometepe Island). After you arrive
at Altagracia, you can take a bus or cab to
the hotel. this trip will take you about 8 hours.
