Nicaragua is a country that
has remained basically unexplored for many decades.
It is the country less populated of all Central
America, and yet the largest in size. Its main
attractions are its amazing and old colonial
cities and towns, its stunning volcanoes, the
incredible Lake Nicaragua, the fascinating and
colorful cultural features and strong religious
traditions. Nicaragua is also famous for the
wide range of differences between the different
regions, the amazing and biologically rich rainforests,
the unexplored and dense cloud forests, the
uninterrupted lowland rainforests of Bosawas
and Indio Maiz, the slow streaming rivers and

Indio Maiz Rainforest
Preserve
Granada is a beautiful colonial
city situated on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.
Its was founded by Francisco Hernández
de Córdoba in 1524. It is considered
to be the oldest city on mainland Nicaragua
and it is still located where it once was built.
There are many colonial buildings and churches
including the old cathedral. Many of the houses
are also built in a very unique style, with
patios, corridors and other typical features,
including the famous “Adobe “. Other
attractions nearby are Laguna de Apoyo lake
which was created 25000 years ago alter a volcanic
eruption. You can still find volcanic rocks
in it and near Masaya Volcano.

Momotombo Volcano
Masaya y considered the cradle of Nicaragua
folklore. It is located at 30 Kms. from Managua,
on the way to Granada. One of its main attractions
is the main entrance, where one can find a statue
of the General Augusto Nicolas Sandino Calderon.
Ometepe is a beautiful island located off the
coasts of Granada and San Jorge, in the region
of San Jorge. There are two important volcanoes
on the island, Concepción Volcano and
Maderas Volcano. It is the largest island in
the lake.
Maderas Volcano is situated in Ometepe Island,
next to Concepción Volcano. Although
it is extinct, a disastrous landslide affected
the north side in the 90`s. It s last activity
period occurred 3000 years ago. Its crater is
filled with a lagoon. It is a beautiful place
to visit, very quiet and with a beautiful scenery.
The people living on Ometepe are also very friendly
and helpful.

Granada and Lake Nicaragua
Concepción Volcano is situated on Ometepe
Island, in Lake Nicaragua. It is very high with
1610 meters above sea level. It is active, and
its last eruptions occurred in 1986 although
activity was reported in 2005. Its top is covered
by a tropical forest and the view from above
is extremely amazing. From its top, the visitor
can admire the beautiful scenery and the surrounding
areas, including the lake, the other volcanoes
and the beautiful coastal towns.
