Solentiname and Indio Maiz

6 days and 5 nights

DAY 1: Arrival in Managua and transfer to your hotel. Check in. Afternoon and evening at leisure. Overnight in Managua. If coming from Costa Rica. Overnight in Granada.

DAY 2: Transfer from Managua or other destinations within Nicaragua to San Carlos de Nicaragua, situated on the shores of Lake Nicaragua and San Juan River. From San Carlos, private boat transfer to Soletiname Archipielago and Islands, in the heart of the lake. When arrived, check in and visit to the Ernesto Cardenal Library and Cultural Center. Also, visit the islands by foot, discover the nature and local traditions. Overnight in Solentiname.

DAY 3: Solentiname – Los Guatuzos. Breakfasts. Early morning departure to the rainforests of Rio Papaturro inside the Los Guatuzos Rain forest preserve. The tour includes a visit to the Biological Research Station where endangered species are being studied. Also, here you can visit the butterfly garden, orchid garden and the turtle hatching station. Afternoon return and overnight in Solentiname.

DAY 4/5 : Solentiname –Bartola Refuge. After breakfasts, transfer by boat to the famous Bartola Refuge. Bartola is a rainforest preserve that borders the large Indio Maiz Nature and Rainforest Preserve, the second largest in Central America. The wildlife here is just amazing. The Bartola River divides the two protected area and serves as local transportation route. Overnight in Bartola Refuge. Local tours are abundant.

DAY 6: Refugio Bartola – Managua. Breakfasts. Early morning boat transfer back to San Carlos de Nicaragua and from there domestic airline transfer back to Managua. Possible extension to Costa Rica. In that case, transfer back to San Carlos and from there ground transfer to the border.
